Manufacturer description

THE NIKON F3T. A NEW TITANIUM BODY FOR LONGER MILEAGE.

As everyone knows, professional photographers drive their cameras hard. And that's why more pros use Nikon cameras than all other 35mm SLR cameras combined. Because the built-in quality means high performance over the long run. Now, the strength of titanium, one of the world's strongest yet lightest metals, adds extra protection to the already rugged Nikon F3. The new Nikon F3T features a titanium-clad outer body. Compared to brass, the metal normally used for professional SLR camera bodies, titanium is twice as strong and twice as hard to dent or scratch. Plus, it's virtually the equal of expensive platinum in its high degree of resistance to corrosion and rusting. And it's equipped with the exclusive Nikon DE-4 High-Eye-point Finder for a comfortable, unobstructed view of the entire focusing area and exposure display.

Stated simply, the Nikon F3T is the toughest SLR in the world!

From the Nikon Journal (Vol. 23 No. 4, September 30, 2006)

F3 Titanium Champagne Limited Edition: In 1983 Nikon released a special run of 300 pieces of a Champagne colored Titanium F3 with a matching serial number on both the body and lens (a 50mm/f1.4) for the American market. It came in a beautiful walnut presentation display case. The champagne finish was fantastic looking but the coating applied to the titanium was overly prone to scratching with only very Iight use reducing it from a desirable collectible to an everyday work horse very quickly.

F3 Black Titanium: This model was introduced following requests of professional photographers. But the application of the black coating was never a great success. The engineers worked in close cooperation with various paint and powdered coating companies trying to get the coating to stick to titanium. It is almost impossible to get anything to stick to titanium. It is very hard to find a mint or near mint F3 black Titanium today.

From the editor

The camera body was originally in champagne finish, but since 1984 it was produced in black paint finish. Serial numbers start at T 8200001 for the champagne version, for the black Nikon F3/T numbering starts at T 8500001.
