CANON INTRODUCES THE EOS 3000N TO IT'S SUCCESSFUL SLR CAMERA LINE-UP
Canon introduces a new entry level SLR, the EOS 3000N ideal for budding photography enthusiasts. The EOS 3000N is the most outstanding cost performance EOS ever to be introduced to the UK market at an affordable price of £269.99. Offering enhanced operability, the EOS 3000N also features a new sophisticated design.
With its eye-catching metallic silver finish, this ultra compact and light weight camera retains all the basic features of its predecessor, whilst offering users additional improvements to further enhance ease of use, such as AEB, E-TTL autoflash metering, manual focusing point selection and a Night Scene mode.
High-performance wide-area auto-focusing
The EOS 3000N uses a wide-area three-point focusing system, displayed in the viewfinder, allowing the user to select each of the focusing points and switch by automatic or manual selection. The three-point focusing system also allows off-centre subjects to be captured perfectly.
Full range of exposure control functions
Exposure metering is performed using 6-zone evaluative metering, partial metering at centre, or centre weighted averaging metering system. In addition, manual exposure correction (+/- 2 stops) is available.
With Canon's EOS dedicated external speedlites, E-TTL (Evaluative Through-The-Lens) autoflash metering is made possible. This system uses the camera's evaluative metering sensors for the flash reading. Together with the three focusing points that are linked to E-TTL autoflash metering, it is possible to illuminate subjects with the correct exposure, even if these are to the left or right of the centre of the frame.
The camera also features a retractable TTL auto exposure flash unit. When shooting in low-light or back-lit situations in the Full Auto and Programmed Image Control modes (except Landscape and Sports), the flash – when popped up – automatically fires as the exposure is made.
The new EOS 3000N also provides Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) allowing users to shoot three frames in rapid succession from 2 to +2 stops, in ½ stop increments. For difficult lighting situations this gives users the opportunity to take perfectly exposed shots.
The camera has a red-eye reduction mode, and the built-in flash has a guide number of 12 (ISO 100, m) and an illumination angle wide enough to cover the field-of-view of a 28mm lens.
Easy operation
Two focusing modes are available on the EOS 3000N – One Shot AF and One Shot AF/AI auto switching which are selected automatically by the camera according to the shooting mode. If the subject moves, the camera tracks the subject until the focus is achieved before the exposure starts. Manual focusing can also be selected.
The EOS 3000N uses the familiar Canon command dial for the easy selection of operating modes. With the addition of a new "Night Scene" mode, the EOS 3000N now offers five PIC (Programme Image Control) modes, which also include Portrait, Landscape, Close-up and Sports. A full auto mode provides general settings to suit most subjects.
An Auto Depth mode allows the camera to automatically set an aperture, which will bring all three focusing points of the subject area within the depth-of-field. Also included on the command dial of the EOS 3000N is P mode. In this intelligent program AE the camera will set both the shutter speed and aperture for the exposure. AV mode can be set for aperture priority whilst TV mode can be set for shutter speed priority. The user can also select the matching shutter speed and aperture for optimum exposure and there is an M setting for manual control.
The EOS 3000N accepts the full range of more than 60 Canon EF lenses and many of the great variety of Canon system accessories. It is also available as a Quartz-Date (QD) model.
The EOS 3000N comes with a EF28-90 f/4.0-5.6 non USM lens.
The EOS 3000N will be available from September 2001 from RRP £269.99.

Manufacturer description #3
This model is the replacement for, and continues the tradition of the EOS 5000/88, marketed in January 1995 and the EOS 3000/88, marketed in March 1999, which were very popular because of their affordability, small size, light weight, ease of operation, and silent operation. It is intended mainly for the East European and Asian markets.
With its low price and high performance, it is designed to be the “Next Generation Affordable AF SLR Standard”. The metallic silver finish gives it an elegant air, and multiple functions, including wide-area 3-point AF.
