Manufacturer description
In the fall of 1978, Nikon introduced its third teleconverter, the TC-14. Unlike the TC-200 or 300, the TC-14 provides a 1.4X increase in the focal length with only a one stop loss in effective aperture. Thus, the TC-14 is ideal for adding "extra reach" to telephoto lenses from 300-1200mm (plus the 180mm f/2.8) without drastically reducing their speed.

Comments (2)
this TC isn’t compatible with shorter focal lens, only for 200mm and above (the 14A works with shorter focal lengths)
In fact, the TC-14 can be used with some Nikon lenses with focal lengths shorter than 300mm, despite the teleconverter’s description stating otherwise. The compatibility information was taken from the compatibility table published by Nikon on its website.
