Chinon M42

35mm SLR system • Discontinued

A 35mm SLR system developed and manufactured by the Japanese company Chinon Industries Inc. based on the M42 screw mount with fully automatic aperture and TTL stop-down exposure metering.

Cameras in this system can be divided into two categories: (1) models with a mechanical shutter and manual exposure mode, and (2) models with an electronically controlled shutter and aperture priority auto exposure mode. Chinon produced these models under various names for other distributors of photographic equipment. Among such cameras, the most famous was the Alpa Si 2000, which was based on the Chinon CE II Memotron.

As for the lenses, Chinon did not produce them, but ordered from other manufacturers. Below is a list of lenses that were mentioned in Chinon's literature:

In addition to lenses, various accessories such as angle finder, cable release, power winder, remote control unit, auto-extension ring, bellows, copy stand and table tripod were also available.
