Manufacturer description

The КИЕВ-17 is a high-end small format SLR camera. Designed for amateur shooting, can also be used in scientific technical photography.

Designed for 35mm wide photographic film in standard cassettes (36 frames of 24x36 mm format when loading 1.6m of film).

Available with ГЕЛИОС-81Н lens (focal length 53mm, relative aperture 1:2) or ВОЛНА-4 (focal length 50mm, relative aperture 1:1,4).

The camera has a focal plane shutter with metal curtains, which provides shutter speeds in the range of 1/1000 - 1 s and "B". The curtains move along the short side of the frame from bottom to top.

The shutter cocking is lever-operated, interlocked with the film transport mechanism and the frame counter, which eliminates the possibility of double exposures. If double exposure is needed, the design provides the ability to disable the film transport mechanism and the frame counter.

The viewfinder is of a constant viewing type (the mirror is retracted only when the shutter is released). Focusing is carried out using a wedge, a microraster ring and ground glass. The field of view is 23x35 mm, covering 93% of the frame area.

The viewfinder, thanks to the Fresnel lens and condenser lens, makes it possible to shoot in low light conditions.

The magnification of the viewfinder is 4x.

The lens mount is of a bayonet type. Flange focal distance - 46.5mm.

The back of the camera is hinged.

The frame counter is automatically set to "Н" (start) when the back is opened.

The camera is equipped with synchronizing devices for working with flash lamps.

The shutter can be released using the self-timer (preliminary work time before releasing the shutter is 7–15 s).

The lens focusing mechanism is designed to operate in the range from infinity to 0.5m (ГЕЛИОС-81Н) and 0.45m (ВОЛНА-4).

From the editor

The camera was produced by the Arsenal Plant (USSR) from 1978 to 1984.

The price of this camera in the Soviet Union was high, while the reliability was insufficient for both professionals and amateur photographers.
