Manufacturer description

This telephoto macro lens can photograph objects not only at full life-size reproduction but also at infinity or at any point in between. Images can be reproduced in high contrast throughout the entire shooting range. This lens minimizes the fluctuation of astigmatic aberration due to focusing. The straight focusing system and the screw-type hood facilitate the use of circular polarizing filters. The lens has a minimum aperture of f/45 (or f/32 for Nikon and Pentax mounts) that increases the depth of field for close-up shooting.

From the editor

The overall length of the lens increases considerably with focusing from infinity to the closest distance. The front element is deeply recessed inside the lens barrel which eliminates the need for a lens hood. Nevertheless, Sigma offered deep circular screw-in lens hood as a part of the package. The hood has threads to accept 77mm filters but must be removed to mount the dedicated lens cap or a 58mm filter.

Notes

  • The autofocus will not be available with Nikon D40, D40X, D60, D3000-D3500, D5000-D5600 digital SLR cameras.
  • Sigma had to reverse engineer the communication protocol of the Canon EF mount to produce a version of this lens for Canon EOS 35mm film SLR cameras. As a consequence, this lens may not work properly with Canon EOS cameras (both film and digital) due to compatibility issues.
