Manufacturer description #1

03 - 12/2001 - New titanium-plated model of LEICA M6 TTL 0.72

Leica Camera AG, Solms is now offering a special limited titanium-plated series of the classic rangefinder camera LEICA M6 TTL 0.72. The three most popular focal lengths of the Summicron lens series – the LEICA SUMMICRON-M f/2/35mm ASPH., the LEICA SUMMICRON-M f/2/50mm and the LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-M f/2/90mm ASPH. - are also available with a titanium finish to match the camera. This titanium series for all collectors and camera enthusiasts is limited to 1000 cameras and 500 of each lens type worldwide.

The combination of titanium plated metal and soft exclusive leather finish distinguishes this new LEICA model from the others in the successful M series. The brown buffalo leather has a pleasant, easy-grip feel and accentuates the camera's robust personality. The ultra hard, homogeneous, lustrous and champagne-coloured titanium plating of the three equally elegant lenses gives them a distinctive, high-quality, durable exterior. Additionally, the LEICA SUMMICRON-M f/2/35mm ASPH. sports highly exclusive technical features, including a metal lens hood with gaps to allow a full view of the viewfinder image and a metal cap for the lens hood, both with matching titanium finish.

This special titanium series offers the same famously high quality as all LEICA M rangefinder camera and lenses. The large, constantly bright viewfinder of the Leica M camera avoids dark phases during photography, irrespective of the lens in use. At the same time, the picture area is indicated by brightline frames with automatic parallax compensation which adapt automatically when the lens is changed. High-precision focusing when using short focal-length lenses is ensured by the large measuring base of the rangefinder. The low-vibration shutter release of the LEICA M also allows significantly longer hand-held exposures.

The high performance of the ASPH. lenses of the Leica M series is achieved by using proprietary advanced aspherical technology. Besides their high speed the lenses are compact and easy to use.

Manufacturer description #2

Now available, in limited numbers, the classic LEICA M6 TTL with high-grade titanised metal exterior parts.

To match it, and also in a limited quantity, the three most popular focal lengths in the Summicron series are now also available in titanium finish. The 35mm is even supplied with special features: a metal lens hood with openings for complete viewing of the viewfinder image and metal cover for the lens hood, both with matching titanization.

In the multi-stage production process, the brass components are first of all nickel-plated and then “bombarded” with titanium ions using “sputtering”, a high-tech high vacuum process. The result is extremely hard, even and dull-bright champagne coloured titanium surfaces, which give these model variants their unmistakable high-quality and durable exterior.

The leatherwork also distinguishes this camera from others in the series: the thick and soft brown buffalo leather is both handy and pleasant and underlines the product’s robust character.

Photography with the Leica M and Leica M lenses has a special appeal. It is based on a whole range of characteristics.

The camera is a good example: It is notable for its viewfinder, which is unrivalled in size, maintains the same brightness regardless of the lenses used and retains the image throughout exposure. At the same time it offers bright-lines with automatic parallax compensation for framing, which also adjust auto- matically according to the lens used. The rangefinder with its large basis allows extraordinarily accurate fine focussing, particularly for short focal length lenses. Also worthy of mention is the amazingly low vibration mechanism of the LEICA M, which allows considerably longer shutter speeds from hand, than the reflex cameras with no problems – there is no mirror movement, no automatic aperture and the LEICA M shutter itself runs much more quietly.

We should not forget the M lenses: They are justifiably famous for their top-class image properties, with the performance often achieved through the use of Leica’s own advanced aspherical technology. Many of them have a high light intensity, despite that they are extremely compact and easy to handle.

All in all, these features make up a unique system. The renowned precision of the mechanism, which is noticeable in the working of all the functions and each time the camera or lens is adjusted, the materials used and the high-quality finish complete the overall picture. They make a significant contribution to the fact that a Leica M and Leica M lenses maintain both their service value and their attractive appearance for decades.

Summary:

Alongside the familiar black and silver finish, the new titanised versions of the LEICA M6 TTL 0.72, the SUMMICRON-M 1:2/35 mm ASPH., the SUMMICRON-M 1:2/50 mm and the APO-SUMMICRON-M 1:2/90 mm ASPH. now represent a third alternative, which is elegant, high-quality and durable.
