Manufacturer description

As from September 1996 Leica Camera is listed on the stock exchange. This milestone in the almost 150-year history of Leica is a result of the successful business policies of the company over the past years. It is also a concrete step into an innovative future. Leica Camera has now become a joint stock company, allowing friends of Leica to have a share in the success of this German camera manufacturer - a company so rich in tradition.

Leica is celebrating this event with an exciting special edition which will be of particular interest to all Leica fans, friends and dedicated Leica photographers. This exclusive limited edition is in the form of a set comprising a specially engraved classic LEICA M6 camera with exqusite leather covering, the latest high-performance lens 35 mm SUMMILUX M f/1.4 ASPH. and one stock certificate at the nominal value of five marks. This is an opportunity to acquire a real "piece" of Leica in more ways than one.

This special series of LEICA M6 cameras, manufactured in a limited numbering 996, is of an elegant black design. All engravings on the camera and lens are in soft silver-grey. The camera top bears a fine engraving of the stock layout. On the back of the camera there is a further engraving marking the special occasion: Leica Camera AG/"Ein Stück Leica"/Börsengang 1996 (Leica Camera AG/"a piece of Leica"/going public 1996). The two raised sections of the flash shoe bear the respective special number and serial number. The excellent, high-performance lens, 35 mm SUMMILUX M f/1.4 ASPH. bears the engraving "Ein Stück Leica" ("a piece of Leica"). The camera housing has a genuine calfskin covering with an imprinted design depicting the fine Leica script. The camera comes in a wooden casket lined with red silk and luxuriously coated in black lacquer.

The 996 stock certificates are also rather special - this number representing the month and the year of going public. These are the very first securities of the new Leica Camera AG. The authenticity of this unique offer is confirmed with a certificate bearing the signature of Klaus-Dieter Hofmann, President of the Leica Camera AG, and Wolfgang Müller, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Sales. The authenticity of the certificate is countersigned by none other than Sebastião Salgado, the famous Leica photographer, making each of these stock certificates quite a unique piece and a true investment in more ways than one.

The camera, lens, accessories, stock, wooden casket and certificate of authenticity are available as a complete set only. An unmistakable and unique piece of Leica - for 996 true Leica fans.
