From the editor
In 1983 Leica released 2500 chrome M4-P cameras to commemorate 70 years of Leica dating from Oscar Barnack's first prototype in 1913. The back of the top plate was engraved "Leica 1913-1983", along with one of the five letters in the Leica name, followed by a number 1 to 500. A regular production serial number was also engraved on the hot shoe.
In addition to the camera, the following lenses with the engraving "Leica 1913-1983" were produced to commemorate the event:
- Elmarit-M 28mm F/2.8,
- Summicron-M 35mm F/2,
- Summilux 35mm F/1.4,
- Summicron-M 50mm F/2,
- Summilux 50mm F/1.4,
- Summilux-M 75mm F/1.4,
- Tele-Elmarit-M 90mm F/2.8.
With the exception of the special engraving, these lenses were no different from the corresponding mass-production versions. Even the order numbers were the same.
