TAMRON INTRODUCES NEW SP AF90MM F/2.8 1:1 HIGH-QUALITY MACRO LENS WITH IMPROVED OPERATIONAL EASE

The Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 1:1 Macro lens released in June 1997 has been highly appreciated by professionals and serious amateur photographers alike the world over. The European Imaging and Sound Association heralded the lens as the “Lens of the Year” for ‘97-’98. The SP AF 90mm Macro Features excellent portability and operational ease in the field while retaining the outstanding optical quality provided by the highly acclaimed Tamron SP MF90mm it succeeded. Now, Tamron announces an improved version of this SP AF90mm Macro lens with an important improvement in its mechanical features and refined cosmetic design.

* NEW AF/MF SWITCH-OVER MECHANISM

The latest version of the Tamron SP AF90mm 1:1 Macro Lens for Canon EOS and Nikon D models incorporates a new AF/MF switch-over mechanism that is cross-coupled with the focus ring clutch. This new feature facilitates photographers to change from auto focus to manual focus and vise versa instantaneously at any given point by sliding the focus ring back and forth. This improvement in Electro-mechanical construction is aimed at enhancing the maneuverability in subtle focusing operation especially in macro photography, when manual focus often comes more practical. In addition, the focus ring torque in manual focus mode is optimally tuned to make the best of this feature.

When set to AF mode, the focus ring will not rotate as the clutch mechanism disengages if from the internal barrel structure. This allows the photographer to firmly grasp the lens around the full length of the lens barrel for steadier hand-holding without fear of interference with the AF operation.

* NEW DESIGN

At the same time, Tamron has enhanced the physical design of the SP AF90mm by applying new cosmetics. Ergonomic characteristics have improved by the employment of a new rubber pattern on its focus control ring; the distance scales and indices are now even easier to read; and the new gun-metal black finish completes its new sophisticated and high-quality look.

From the editor

For Canon EF-mount version of this lens, Dual Focus system (focus clutch + focus mode switch) was replaced by a single focus clutch. In other respects the lens is essentially the same as the model 72E.

Notes

  • The autofocus will not be available with Nikon D40, D40X, D60, D3000-D3500, D5000-D5600 digital SLR cameras.
