Manufacturer description #1
Like the 200mm lens, the smc DA* 300mm also offers first-class performance for demanding professional requirements. Specifically designed for highly efficient modern DSLR systems, it offers brilliant solutions for longer telephoto focal length demands, being equivalent to a 460mm lens in 35mm film format. Special ED lens elements reliably reduce color aberrations to a minimum. The smc DA* 300mm offers the same handling benefits as its 200mm sibling: the ultrasonic focus is extremely fast and silent, the inner focusing system effectively maintains the critical focal point and the special PENTAX SP coating of the front lens element efficiently prevents dirt from adhering. The lens body is also completely sealed against spray and dust, making this a perfect lens for sports and wildlife photography. Additionally, it is also equipped with a tripod mount.
Manufacturer description #2
Super telephoto lens equivalent to 460mm in the 35mm film format. The second and fifth lenses use ED glass, and the optical system uses an inner focus system for correcting thoroughly the various types of aberrations that reduce image quality. This enables clear, high-contrast images and also allows a significantly more compact design. This lens is ideal for unencumbered shooting of subjects with active movement such as sports photography. The lens includes a rotating tripod seat for enabling simple attachment and detachment.
Features:
- Ultrasonic motor is used in the lens for providing an "SDM" mechanism that enables quiet and smooth autofocus operation. (AF driven by the internal camera motor is also supported.)
- The lens components are sealed for enabling a dust-resistant and drip-proof construction that prevents the entry of water and dust into the lens.
- An inner focus optical system is used for correcting various types of aberrations over the entire shooting range.
- SP (super protect) coating for protecting the lens front surface from water and dirt
- Quick-Shift Focus System for enabling manual focus operation after focusing by AF without any switching operation.
Pentax-DA series
The fourth generation of autofocus lenses designed for Pentax APS-C digital SLR cameras. Introduced with the Pentax *ist D in 2003.
- Lens barrels made from engineering plastic;
- Do not have an aperture ring. The aperture is controlled from the camera;
- Automatic focusing using in-camera or in-lens motor;
- Quick-Shift Focus System (except for DA L models).
