Manufacturer description #1
In addition to its 84° picture coverage and excellent speed, the 24mm f2.8 offers exceptional resolving power and correction at all shooting distances. Its special formula embodies an independent rear lens group movement that dramatically improves image quality at close focusing distances. In fact, it is widely acknowledged to be the sharpest wide-angle lens for any sIr 35. Compact size is another advantage of this lens design which achieves great light-gathering power without an extra-large front element.
Manufacturer description #2
This retro-focus lens, based on a creative design concept, combines a super wideangle of 84° with the highest speed of f/2.8 among the same focal length lenses, incorporating an automatic diaphragm.
Automatic correction of image quality at close distance is an outstanding feature of this lens. Coupled to the focusing ring, the device ensures satisfactory performance over the entire focusing range-from infinity to the closest distance of 0.3m.
This wideangle lens makes back focus clearance long enough to provide uniform brightness in every corner of the picture image, even at full lens opening. The ingenious optical design made possible a reduction in the overall size and weight.
This wideangle lens is ideal for landscape, travel and architectural photography and candid shots.
From the editor
The Nikkor 24mm f2.8 appeared in 1967 and quickly gained a reputation as an outstanding optic. This was due no doubt to the fact it was the world's first lens to employ the CRC system that helps to maintain image quality at close focus range.
·C (multi-coated) version of this lens was introduced in 1972. The specification is exactly the same as for the single-coated version.
Notes
- This non-AI lens was designed for Nikon F, F2, Nikkormat FS, FT, FT2, FTN, EL, ELW 35mm film SLR cameras.
- Non-AI lenses cannot be used on Nikon digital SLR cameras (except for the Df) or late (AI) film SLR cameras. However, non-AI lenses can be fitted to Nikon FM, FE, EL2, F3, F4 and Nikkormat FT3 cameras which used the AI metering system but allowed the metering coupling lever to be disengaged. The F5 could have this mechanism fitted as an optional extra. Non-AI lenses can be also fitted to the Nikon F2A and F2AS cameras because the AI mechanism was fitted to the removable metering prism.
