Manufacturer description #1
This is the focal length most photographers choose as the first to supplement their normal lens. But, the 28mm Auto-Nikkor offers more than versatile 74° picture coverage.
Its surpassing sharpness and image brilliance has led experts to term it the finest in its focal length. The automatic diaphragm and provision for meter coupling add further advantages. Closest focusing distance is 24 inches.
Manufacturer description #2
Introduced soon after the debut of the Nikon F in 1959, this wideangle lens has long been a favorite among Nikon-armed photographers and photo enthusiasts.
Although the lens is of the retro-focus type, with a picture angle of 74° and consisting of only 6 elements in 6 groups, it gives vivid contrast and brilliance even at full lens opening, with a minimum of coma and distortion. The lens is precisely corrected for spherical aberrations, eliminating the displacement of focus, which is liable to occur as the diaphragm is stopped down.
These outstanding features make this lens excellent for panoramic landscapes, candid work and for architectural and interior photography.
From the editor
·C (multi-coated) version of this lens was introduced in June 1973. The specification is exactly the same as for the single-coated version.
Notes
- This non-AI lens was designed for Nikon F, F2, Nikkormat FS, FT, FT2, FTN, EL, ELW 35mm film SLR cameras.
- Non-AI lenses cannot be used on Nikon digital SLR cameras (except for the Df) or late (AI) film SLR cameras. However, non-AI lenses can be fitted to Nikon FM, FE, EL2, F3, F4 and Nikkormat FT3 cameras which used the AI metering system but allowed the metering coupling lever to be disengaged. The F5 could have this mechanism fitted as an optional extra. Non-AI lenses can be also fitted to the Nikon F2A and F2AS cameras because the AI mechanism was fitted to the removable metering prism.
