Manufacturer description #1
This lens is one of the most popular for moderate telephoto effects and portraiture. It provides about 2 times the magnification of a normal lens. 23°20' angle of view, high-speed and high resolution make it the choice of many who seek their first telephoto lens. Features an automatic diaphragm with click-stops to f22. Focuses down to 4 feet or 120 cm. Accepts 52 mm screw-in filters. Supplied with snap-on lens hood and plastic case. Leather case with shoulder strap available.
Manufacturer description #2
This intermediate telephoto is one of the most popular long-focus Nikkors. Its 2.1x magnification (23.5 degrees angle of view) high-speed and unusual resolution make it the choice of many who seek their first telephoto lens. Features 5-elements. Automatic diaphragm. Click-stops to f22. Focuses to 4'. Accepts 52mm screw-in filters. Couples to Nikon F exposure meter.
Manufacturer description #3
This is the most popular long focus Iens for moderate telephoto effects combined with high speed. It is a comparatively bright highly versatile telephoto lens possessing about double the focal distance and one-half the viewing field of a normal lens. Although it does not possess the telescopic effects of the 135 mm telephoto lens, naturalness is retained in the perspective portraiture. This lens is very convenient for indoor and stage photography. It is also excellent for night photographing and candid portraiture. Because it has the features of both the 85mm and 135 mm telephoto lenses, it can be substituted for either of these lenses.
From the editor
The first Nikkor 105mm f2.5 was introduced during 1959 with the Nikon F camera, and has the same red "R" IR index mark and aperture markings as other very early Nikkor lenses. This design uses five element in three groups as do several versions that followed it, and is a direct descendent of the legendary 105mm lens for the rangefinder cameras from 1953.
Early version of this lens has 9 aperture blades.
Notes
- This non-AI lens was designed for Nikon F, F2, Nikkormat FS, FT, FT2, FTN, EL, ELW 35mm film SLR cameras.
- Non-AI lenses cannot be used on Nikon digital SLR cameras (except for the Df) or late (AI) film SLR cameras. However, non-AI lenses can be fitted to Nikon FM, FE, EL2, F3, F4 and Nikkormat FT3 cameras which used the AI metering system but allowed the metering coupling lever to be disengaged. The F5 could have this mechanism fitted as an optional extra. Non-AI lenses can be also fitted to the Nikon F2A and F2AS cameras because the AI mechanism was fitted to the removable metering prism.
