Manufacturer description #1

This lens has been specially manufactured for use with UV light. Its highly transmissive properties allow UV rays to pass virtually unimpeded through the multi-lens design. Supplied with an AF-1 Gel Holder, UR-2 Adapter Ring and Nikon UV filter. Accepts 52mm filters.

Manufacturer description #2

The UV-Nikkor 105mm F/4.5 is a specially designed for UV (ultraviolet) photography, and with virtually no variations in the focus position between visible rays and UV rays, it eliminates clumsy focus adjustments.

Special coating is applied to the air-to-glass surface of the lens element to reduce reflection under UV rays.

At all focused distances in every wavelength range, aberration is minimal and distortion is eliminated. Fluorspar is applied to some lens elements to ensure adequate transmission of UV rays.

Of course, ordinary photography can be performed in visible light.

From the editor

The lens which is optimized for wavelengths from 220nm to 1100nm. Its outstanding image quality comes close to the theoretically possible maximum throughout the focusing range. It was designed for special applications in forensic work, industrial product examination, and medical science. A special UV filter and the matching UR-2 filter holder were supplied with the lens. The transmission of this filter is limited to a range of wavelengths between 250nm and 380nm. Obviously any lens accessory such as a filter or teleconverter that is coated to eliminate UV transmission cannot be used with this lens for UV photography.

The lens was discontinued in 1999 but Tochigi Nikon offers optically and mechanically the same NikonRaytact PF10545MF-UV industrial lens since November 2006.
