An AF version of the 105mm f2.8 model. The lens can be focused down to 31.4cm to provide a ratio of 1:1, where the working distance is reduced to 13.6cm. Unfortunately, like the AF 60mm f2.8 optic the penalty for having a lens that focuses continuously from infinity to life-size is that the effective focal length becomes shorter the closer you focus, until at 1:1 it is barely more than 2/3 its original length. It is also worth noting that at this point the effective maximum aperture is only f5. Image quality is excellent at the wider apertures and peaks around f5.6 however below f11 there is a noticeable reduction in sharpness at the corners despite the use of the CRC system. There is a focus range limit switch to facilitate faster AF operation.

Notes

  • The autofocus will not be available with Nikon D40, D40X, D60, D3000-D3500, D5000-D5600 digital SLR cameras.
