From the editor
At the time a revolutionary new design in the Leica M system, with two aspherical surfaces. It overcame the problem of coma which is apparent at the edges of the picture at full aperture with the non-aspherical 35mm Summilux. The lens was unique among other M lenses at the time in having both outer surfaces concave. It was supplied with a special rectangular lens hood, with a cut-out to avoid obstructing the viewfinder, and a rectangular protective cap which fitted over the front of the lens hood.
