Manufacturer description

The Planar® T* 3,5/100 CFi lens is a very special lens. It is not just a standard Planar® lens with 25% more focal length. It is optimized to deliver virtually zero distortion and at the same time extremely well defined image details – sharpness – over the entire frame, and all this even at full aperture. A lens with this quality could only be developed with Carl Zeiss’ extensive experience in microdocumentation and aerial mapping and surveying. So the Planar® T* 3,5/100 CFi lens is the first choice in optics for all photographers who combine a Hasselblad camera and a recent high resolution film for demanding aerial photography with its fast shutter speeds and hence wide open apertures.

The Planar® T* 3,5/100 CFi lens is also an indispensible tool for all applications which require an exact reproduction of the geometry of the subject. It is, therefore, recommended as a standard optical tool for photography where the demands for detail recognition from corner to corner are extremely high, such as architectural work, aerial surveying, documentation, industrial and scientific photography. For reproducing valuable paintings and similar artwork with sizes larger than one square meter, the Planar T* 3,5/100 CFi lens should be the no. 1 lens choice. (For artwork sizes smaller than one square meter, the Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 4/120 CFi lens is the lens of choice.) Every Hasselblad photographer who is really serious about sharpness can't do without this lens!

Preferred use: architecture, documentation, and reproduction with no distortion, large products with important small details, general industrial, aerials shot wide open, digital photography.

Carl Zeiss CFi series

The third generation of Carl Zeiss lenses with a built-in leaf shutter, introduced in 1998. Compared to the original CF lens series, the CFi/CFE lenses were vastly improved in internal and external design for unsurpassed image quality as well as even better reliability and handling comfort.

  • New internal design and new anti-reflection materials reducing stray-light flare to a minimum;
  • Improved design of the Prontor leaf shutter, which prolongs its life and increases the lasting precision;
  • All shutter speeds up to 1/500 sec. synchronized automatically for electronic flash;
  • Aperture and shutter speed can be set independently for complete creative control or interlocked;
  • PC-socket with a positive lock, which secures the flash contact even better;
  • The "F" setting disengages the leaf shutter when using only the focal plane shutter in the camera body;
  • New external design providing increased handling comfort and is styled to complement the camera body aesthetics;
  • The redesigned focusing mechanism allows fast and exceptionally precise and sensitive focusing;
  • Front and rear bayonet mounts were re-engineered to resist wear even better than previous designs.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Carl Zeiss lens designation "Planar" mean?

The Planar is one of the most successful camera lens designs ever created. It provides the lens designer with the ideal basis for high-performance lenses with excellent anastigmatic flatness of the image field, outstanding correction of chromatic aberration, high speed and low distortion. The optical performance is remarkably constant over a wide range of imaging ratios, enabling such a versatile lens variety as the Makro-Planar lenses, optimized for close range photography. The Planar design is the basis for nearly all professional standard and medium focal length lenses and also for the fastest lenses ever created. In the Hasselblad range the fastest lens is consequently a Planar: the Planar FE 2/110 mm. / Source: Hasselblad literature /
