Abbreviations
T* | Multi-layer anti-reflection coating is applied to the surfaces of lens elements. This anti-reflection coating increases light transmission, eliminates flare and ghosting, and maintains color consistence among all lens models. |
CF | A lens with Prontor shutter. Also compatible with cameras with focal-plane shutter. Learn more |

Manufacturer description #1
The 100 mm Planar T* f/3.5 lens provides outstanding image quality and freedom from distortion due to the appropriate choice of speed and focal length. This lens with a Prontor CF shutter has been specially developed for the Hasselblad SLR camera system.
At full aperture and when stopped down moderately, the image quality of the 100 mm Planar T* f/3.5 lens is superior to that of the 80 mm Planar lens. For this reason, the lens is recommended as a standard lens tor photography where the demands for detail recognition and brilliance are high.
The excellent distortion correction is also of great importance for architectural photography and for all applications which require an exact reproduction of the geometry of the object (e. g. for surveying).
Manufacturer description #2
Designed to achieve the optimum ratio of lens speed to focal length, the 100mm Planar is distinguished by an outstanding image rendition and freedom from distortion.
Its 100 mm focal length makes it an excellent standard lens, as well as a short telephoto in all applications where the highest image quality is required.
The degree of distortion correction attained is outstanding - even by Hasselblad's rigorously high standards.
This is an indispensable lens for all applications which require an exact reproduction of the geometry of the subject. It is, therefore, recommended as a standard lens for photography where the demands for detail recognition are extremely high, such as architectural work, aerial syrveying and mapping.
It has become a favorite with photographers working at longer distances and at wide apertures who want to take full advantage of the superb quality obtainable from the high resolution films available today.
For demanding photographers this lens would be an excellent alternative to the 80 mm standard lens.
Carl Zeiss CF series
The second generation of Carl Zeiss lenses with a built-in leaf shutter, which replaced the C lenses in 1982.
- Prontor leaf shutter with double the life-expectancy of the earlier Compur shutter;
- All shutter speeds up to 1/500 sec. synchronized automatically for electronic flash;
- Aperture and shutter speed can be set independently for complete creative control or interlocked;
- The "F" setting disengages the leaf shutter when using only the focal plane shutter in the camera body;
- CF lens operating controls are matched to those on F lenses;
- Standardized 60mm filter and lens accessories mount on all lenses from 50 to 250mm focal length and SWC/M. Standardized 93mm filter and lens accessory mount on 40, 350, and 550mm CF lenses.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Carl Zeiss lens designation "Planar" mean?
The Planar is one of the most successful camera lens designs ever created. It provides the lens designer with the ideal basis for high-performance lenses with excellent anastigmatic flatness of the image field, outstanding correction of chromatic aberration, high speed and low distortion. The optical performance is remarkably constant over a wide range of imaging ratios, enabling such a versatile lens variety as the Makro-Planar lenses, optimized for close range photography. The Planar design is the basis for nearly all professional standard and medium focal length lenses and also for the fastest lenses ever created. In the Hasselblad range the fastest lens is consequently a Planar: the Planar FE 2/110 mm. / Source: Hasselblad literature /
