Manufacturer description #1
A TS-E lens offering tilt and shift functions together with a natural perspective useful in landscape and product photography. The rear-focusing optical system utilises a floating design which maintains a fixed lens length during focusing. Distortion and spherical aberration are well corrected with optimum balance, providing sharp, clear image quality from the closest focusing distance of 0.4m/1.3ft to infinity. Effective use of the lens' tilt mechanism enables impressive photographs with a deep depth of field not possible with conventional standard lenses. Use of reverse tilt can provide an extremely shallow depth of field creating a soft, delicate ambience. A multi-purpose standard lens for the new generation.
Manufacturer description #2
When you want to maintain a natural perspective while photographing buildings and other structures with the shift function, this 45mm standard TS-E lens is just the answer. Its floating mechanism combines with its rear focusing system to ensure sharp, stable imaging performance at all shooting distances. And since the filter mount does not rotate during focusing, using a circular polarizer or graduated ND filter is no problem.
Manufacturer description #3
Normal lens featuring tilt and shift movements. The floating system and rear focusing give sharp and stable delineation from 1.3 ft. (0.4m) to infinity. The 45mm focal length is ideal for obtaining a natural-looking perspective.
From the editor
The lens can be tilted up to +/-8 degrees and shifted up to +/-11mm. The tilt and shift functions can be used singly or in combination. The lens can be rotated through +/-90 degrees with click stops at every 30 degrees to change tilt or shift direction.
By default, tilt and shift functions are perpendicular to each other. Some photographers prefer to set them parallel to each other – this can be done at Canon’s service center.
