Manufacturer description
The Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM lens is the ideal entry focal length into the world of ultra wide-angle photography. A compact, fixed focal length 24mm lens equipped with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology that offers up to 4 stops of shake correction along with a ring-type USM and advanced CPU with optimized AF algorithms for fast auto focusing. Full-time manual focus feature is available for manual focusing even while in AF mode while a minimum focusing distance of 0.66 ft (0.20m) offers dramatic wide-angle images. Aspherical lens elements help improve image quality on the periphery while a 7-blade circular aperture diaphragm delivers beautiful, soft backgrounds. Lens coatings are also used to help minimize ghosting and flares. Offering spectacular image quality, silent and smooth operation in a compact body, it's the ideal lens for capturing both stills and video.
From the editor
An update of the popular Canon EF 24mm F/2.8 lens (1988). World’s first 24mm wide-angle prime lens to feature Image Stabilizer which makes it ideal both for landscape photography and reportage. Large maximum aperture combined with Image Stabilizer enables sharp results when shooting handheld, even in low-light conditions. The lens is also ideal for shooting fast-moving subjects due to the ability of Image Stabilizer to detect intentional panning movement and automatically switch from Mode 1 to Panning mode. The lens has the following advantages over non-IS version:
- improved optical design (though lacks a floating system),
- smaller closest focusing distance (0.2m compared to 0.25m),
- USM with FTM (older version has AFD without FTM),
- better build quality.
Compared to other wide-angle prime lenses in the Canon EOS system
- Slowest speed (F/2.8), along with 4 other models
- Shortest closest focusing distance (0.20m)
- Has Image Stabilizer (IS), along with 2 other models
