Model IIIb Leica Camera (also known as the Model G - 1938) has the rangefinder and viewfinder eyepieces close together (as the Model IIIc). It also has two shutter speed dials, but in this model the top dial is calibrated from 1/20 to 1/1000 sec. and Z (Bulb). The slow speed dial has calibrations from 1 to 1/20 sec. The rangefinder focusing lever is at the base of the rewind knob. Top and bottom plates finished in satin chrome.

As model III a, but with eye lenses for viewfinder and rangefinder closer together. The lever for adjusting the rangefinder telescope is next to the rewind knob. Serial No. from 240017.

Leica Autofocal Camera Model III b, complete with focal plane shutter, with speeds from 1 to 1/1000 second, built-in focusing range finder having a 1 1/2 X magnified field; eyepieces of range finder and view finder placed closely together to facilitate the change from one to the other, eyelets for neckstrap supplied with camera.

An export model that was not intended for Germany.

The body of the Leica IIIb was designed to be more rigid by having internal stiffening pieces and the lens flange fixed to the body with brass inserts.

About 32,705 units were made from 1938 to 1941, and in 1946.
