The 35mm equivalent focal length of the lens, which is 53.5mm, allows the TTartisan AF 35/1.8 ED to be classified as a standard lens covering a wide range of subjects from landscapes and architecture to portraits. Although the lens does not have a record-breaking speed, it is enough to shoot in low light conditions, as well as isolate the subject, smoothly blurring the background, especially at short focusing distances. When stopping down, 9 aperture blades will keep the out-of-focus highlight's a more rounded shape.
Since this lens is a budget model designed for APS-C cameras, it does not have a physical aperture ring, so aperture control is only possible from the camera. For those accustomed to selecting the aperture by touch using the ring, without taking their eyes off the viewfinder, this will seem inconvenient and will require getting used to.
The lens has a wide ribbed manual focusing ring. There is no focus mode switch, this is also done from the camera.
The lens is equipped with a stepping motor (lead screw type), providing quiet and fast automatic focusing. The closest focusing distance is 1.5-2 times longer than most other standard lenses for APS-C mirrorless cameras, at 0.6m.
The lens barrel is made of aluminum and perfectly matches the camera body. Due to its light weight (199g) and small size (60mm), the lens is portable and does not burden you when you capture remarkable moments on the go.
The rear lens cap is equipped with USB Type-C port, which allows you to connect to a personal computer using a data cable and update the lens firmware. It would have been a better solution to equip the lens directly with a USB-C port, since the rear cap can be lost.
The lens accepts 52mm screw-in filters and a small bayonet-type rectangular lens hood. When the lens hood is mounted, you cannot use filters or a lens cap.
