From the editor
The 35mm equivalent focal length of this lens is 41.3mm. Technically, it is a moderate wide-angle lens, but it is only 2mm short of being considered a standard lens. The lens has a simple symmetrical optical formula providing high resolution and a flat image field. The lens is suitable for shooting a wide range of subjects, from landscapes and architecture to full / mid-body portraits. However, the speed of F/2.8 is quite modest, compared to F/1.8 the difference is more than 1 stop. You'll only get a smooth, noticeable background blur with this lens when shooting close-up, and only if the background is far enough away. After this, the fact that the lens's 7 aperture blades at F/4 form polygonal out-of-focus highlights instead of round ones no longer matters. However, not everyone requires impressive background blur and perfectly round out-of-focus highlights from lenses of this class. So you shouldn't be too hard on this lens.
The lens belongs to the class of budget optics designed for APS-C cameras, and also has a compact size (only 29 mm), but the manufacturer still considered it necessary to equip it with a physical aperture ring. But the focus mode switch did not fit. The manual focusing ring is narrow but ribbed and conveniently located at the front of the barrel.
The lens is equipped with a stepping motor (lead screw type), providing quiet and fast automatic focusing. The closest focusing distance is 0.35m and is not inferior to competitors.
The lens barrel is made of aluminum and perfectly matches the camera body. The manufacturer calls this lens a pancake, but at 29mm long it is not that flat and from our point of view cannot be considered a pancake. However, due to its light weight (only 93g), the lens is very portable and perfect for casual, street or travel photography. This is one of its strengths, along with its high resolution.
The rear lens cap is equipped with USB Type-C port, which allows you to connect to a personal computer using a data cable and update the lens firmware. It would have been a better solution to equip the lens directly with a USB-C port, since the rear cap can be lost.
The lens accepts small 39mm screw-in filters and a small screw-type dome-shaped lens hood.
