From the editor
A Chinese ultra-fast lens modeled after the Leica Summilux-M 90/1.5 ASPH. With a focal length of 90mm, the TTArtisan 90/1.25 can be classified as a portrait lens. Shooting in this genre is further facilitated by the speed of F/1.25, which makes possible a shallow depth of field and a very smooth, eye-pleasing background blur. Night photography enthusiasts will also appreciate the maximum speed of this lens, as it does not require raising the ISO too high.
There are 10 aperture blades, so on paper you would think that when stopping down the aperture, the out-of-focus highlights would be almost round. Unfortunately, this is not the case: since the aperture blades are straight, the out-of-focus highlights will appear as polygons in the image. This is a situation where one small design flaw ruins the entire concept of this ultra fast lens. By the way, many vintage high-speed lenses had a very large number of blades (15-20), and despite the fact that they were also straight, due to their large number, the opening they formed was still close to a round shape. Why TTArtisan did not implement at least this approach remains a mystery.
A large aperture requires large diameter optical elements, which in turn results in heavy weight. With the lens weighing 1013g, you won't be able to shoot for long periods of time. Understanding this, the manufacturer has equipped the lens with a tripod mount. However, lenses of this class, such as this 90/1.25, are mostly released as flagship models demonstrating the optical capabilities of the manufacturer, rather than as practical models. And in the case of TTArtisan, we are also talking about the desire to take part of the market from LEICA by mimicking the products of the German manufacturer.
The lens accepts 67mm screw-in filters and a round screw-in lens hood.
The lens was also released in versions for 35mm mirrorless cameras, Fujifilm GFX series and Hasselblad X series medium format mirrorless cameras. We decided to record all these versions separately in our database.
