With a 35mm equivalent focal length of 26-27mm (depending on sensor size), this lens covers a wide range of subjects from landscapes and cityscapes to buildings and interiors. The latter genre is facilitated by the ultra fast speed of F/1.4. It should be noted that such speed is usually found in professional models, which this TTArtisan lens certainly does not belong to. It is also extremely curious that the optical formula of the lens, despite its fast speed, is simpler than that of its competitors. For example, the Samyang 16mm, whose speed of F/2 is one full stop slower, consists of 13 elements, while the faster TTArtisan 17mm has only 9.
In addition to the above genres, the TTArtisan 17/1.4 is also capable of low-light and street photography. In the latter case, it will be convenient to set the hyperfocal distance on the focusing ring, after which you will only have to press the shutter button at the right moment.
The short closest focusing distance of 0.2m allows you to take wide-angle shots of small subjects with an unusual perspective.
The moderate weight (248g) and overall length of 54mm make this lens portable and convenient for casual or travel photography, if you don't mind focusing manually.
The lens accepts small 40.5mm screw-in filters, while a lens hood is not available. The screw-on front cap may be inconvenient for some people because it takes a few seconds to unscrew, which can lead to missing a decisive moment. Why this lens could not be provided with a conventional snap-on cap remains unclear.
