Manufacturer description #1
For over 50 years, Tokina has counted itself among the world's top optical companies. With a history of high quality and affordable pricing, Tokina makes lenses that are prized the world over. The Tokina 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 AF 193 is an excellent example.
Lightweight (14.6 ounces) and compact (3 inches deep), the AF 193 offers superior handling and portability with no compromise in image quality. With elements of high-refraction, low-dispersion glass (made by Hoya), the lens boasts an optical purity that ensures sharpness. Furthermore, Tokina's exclusive anti-reflection coatings suppress flare to provide optimum contrast and color saturation.
Available in the popular AF lens mounts for Canon, Nikon, and Pentax digital SLRs (as well as a Minolta mount), Tokina's 19-35mm AF 193 focuses to 1.3 feet, a perfect distance for close-up photography. It puts you near enough to reach out and manipulate your subject, but far enough away so as not to spook skittish critters or to create exposure or coverage problems when using on-camera flash. The lens's Internal Focusing mechanism allows for a stationary, non-rotating front that optimizes it for use with all barrel-mounted accessories, including ring lights, split filters and polarizers.
For digital shooters, the lens's most compelling feature will probably be its focal length range. When used on many of today's most popular digital SLRs, at its widest, the AF 193 converts to (approximately) a 30mm. Racked out, its a 50mm. The range suits this Tokina to most wide-angle and normal focal length applications.
Manufacturer description #2
This lens replaces the AF235 II (20-35mm f/3.5-4.5) in Tokina's quality middle line of AF series lenses. The AF193 is constructed with high refraction, low dispersion (HLD) glass and multicoated lens elements produced by Hoya Corporation, the world's largest manufacturer of optical glass. While using the same mechanical design as the AF235 II, the AF193 has barrels made from black poly carbonate to reduce the overall weight of the lens, making it more convenient for photographers to carry while traveling, hiking or engaged in other activities where encumbrance is an issue.
Manufacturer description #3
The value and performance of this wide-angle lens soars to new heights. Whether you're shooting landscapes, group portraits, or travel shots, this lens was built to travel light. But it's no lightweight on quality. Tokina's AF 193 uses high-refraction, low-dispersion (HLD) all-glass optics made by Hoya Corporation and multi-coated with Tokina's exclusive anti-reflection coatings for outstanding optical performance in a value-priced lens.
An internal zooming ability allows the focal length to be adjusted without the overall length of the lens changing. Filters, such as circular polarizers and other special effects, can be used, and thanks to the internal focusing mechanism the filter will not move during focusing.
The AF 193 handles and travels easily due to its compact design and lightweight materials. Which is important because now you can have the benefits of a super-wide angle zoom lens with you all the time!
