Manufacturer description #1
Optically Superior 2X Tele-Converter Doubles Focal Length and Magnification Ratio While retaining High Image Quality of The Original Lens
This new SP 2X tele-converter consists of 6 elements in a 4-group optical system with a unique, advanced optical design to give superb image quality from edge to edge.
Key features:
Outstanding Performance
Specially designed to couple with Tamron telephoto and tele-zoom lenses, this tele-converter's new optical design compensates for spherical and chromatic aberrations, minimizing image field curvature for superb edge to edge image quality.
Unique New Optical Design
The 6-element, 4-group optical system uses high diffraction glass and is divided into two major parts: the front group with negative refractive power and the rear group with positive refractive power. This provides outstanding image quality with Tamron tele-zoom lenses.
Compatible with Telephoto and Tele-Zoom Lenses
The design of this 2X tele-converter complements the optical characteristics of the following Tamron lenses: 135mm F/2.5, SP300mm F/2.8, SP300mm F/5.6, SP350mm F/5.6, SP500mm F/8, SP200-500mm F/5.6.
Doubles The Focal Length
Gives you 2X magnification with the original lens - broadening the scope of your photographic flexibility.
Incredibly Compact
The tele-converter's compact design helps retain the handling qualities of the original lens. It is a mere 56.7mm (2.2 inches) in length.
Manufacturer description #2
The key to the optical superiority of the new Tamron SP200F high-performance 2X tele-converter lies in its 6-element 4-group optical system using high-diffraction glass and divided into two major parts: the front group with negative refractive power and the rear group with positive refractive power. Thanks to this new optical system, spherical and chromatic aberrations, together with image field curvature, are thoroughly compensated for, giving superb image quality from edge to edge. The tele-converter requires just two stops exposure increase whilst increasing magnification by 2X. Its compact design helps it retain the handling qualities of any of the following Tamron lenses with which it may be used: 135mm F/2.5, SP300mm F/2.8, SP300mm F/5.6, SP500mm F/8, SP200-500mm F/5.6.
From the editor
The optical design is basically a "stretched out" version of the 01F design and uses high diffraction glass. The result is superb off-axis performance even when the master lens is used at its widest aperture. The corners of the image are noticeably sharper when using this converter versus the 01F model.
Weight and dimensions are indicated for the Nikon F mount.
