Manufacturer description #1

All 2X converters double the focal length and image magnification of the lenses they are used with. The Sigma 2X Tele-Macro Converter, however, also becomes an automatic extension tube for close-up micro photography. For example by attaching the Sigma 2X Tele-Macro Converter to a Sigma 50-200mm lens (1) it becomes a 100-400mm telephoto zoom lens; (2) it doubles the magnification of the lens within the same working distance; (3) it becomes a 1:1 life size magnification micro lens.

Aperture coupling range: F1.4~32. Focal length: 2X of front attached lens (with internal lens unit as 2X converter). Magnification: 43.2÷Focal length of front attached lens (when used as extension tube without lens unit).

Manufacturer description #2

2X Tele-Converter

The Sigma 2X Tele-Macro doubles the focal length of your normal and telephoto lenses. You can take excellent photos under almost any conditions if you follow the steps practiced by any experienced photographer. When hand-holding your lens with the Sigma 2X Tele-Macro attached, we recommend that you use a fast shutter speed (1/250th sec.) to minimize vibrations and camera movement. When the Sigma 2X Tele-Macro is used in combination with telephoto lenses or telephoto zoom lenses, best results will be obtained by using a tripod and cable release.

Because of its patented design, the Sigma 2X Tele-Macro is instantly convertible from a rear lens converter to an extension tube simply by unscrewing and removing the lens cell from the lens barrel. In both applications, automatic diaphragm operation and meter coupling are retained.

The Sigma 2X Tele-Macro is designed to give best performance when used in combination with camera lenses having focal lengths between 50mm and 300mm. However, it can also be used with other focal length lenses with satisfactory results.

Automatic Extension Tube

The image size with the Sigma 2X Tele-Macro is twice as large as that of the camera lens alone. When you wish to work closer to the subject to obtain larger image sizes, you can use the Sigma 2X Tele-Macro as a 43.2mm extension tube by removing its lens cell from the lens barrel. In this way, you can obtain an image size which is larger than the maximum size obtainable by the camera lens alone.

From the editor

In addition to the 50-200mm, this teleconverter was compatible with other Sigma lenses of that time period, but, unfortunately, the manufacturer did not list them.
