Manufacturer description #1
The PANAGOR Auto Macro Converter is a versatile, one piece optical accessory for quality close-up and macro photography:
- Used with 50mm standard lens the PANAGOR Auto Macro Converter is optically corrected to assure true flat field reproduction.
- Corner to corner sharpness.
- Single barrel construction overcomes the inconvenience of extension tubes and bulkiness of bellows systems.
- Continuous focusing in magnification ratios from 1:10 to 1:1.
- Patented design affords a greater working distance than most macro optics and accessories - 10 1/4 inches from subject to film plane at 1:1.
- Compatible with most 35mm SLR through the lens metering systems.

The Panagor AMP system is designed to provide a simple and reliable means of making close-ups with 35-mm SLRs and their normal lenses. The AMP system is mainly for use with an ASA 200 film such as Ektachrome 200, although other films can be used by compensating with the lens aperture.
The two-piece Panagor outfit consists of their Auto Macro Converter with a 360-degree-revolving shoe-mount flash bracket, and the Panagor Auto-280 flash unit. The converter fits between the camera and standard lens just like a teleconverter. The flash unit has a hot-shoe mount, but links up to the camera's PC socket with a synch cord. When attached, the Panagor Auto-280 can be tilted and rotated to the desired position for optimum lighting.
To use the AMP system, you set the camera lens to infinity focus, the aperture to either f/11 or f/16 depending upon the magnification ratio set on the converter, and switch the flash to its green auto-exposure setting. The flash's red AE setting is for very light subjects, particularly with a dark background.
In use, the AMP provided sharp, well-exposed slides of a variety of small objects. While a more powerful flash might be desirable for slow, fine-grain film, this system is satisfactory. The flash typically recycled in a second or two on its four alkaline cells and made it easy to work fast. Greater magnification, to about 1.4X life-size, is possible: set the camera lens to its minimum focus.
