Overview

A small medium format 6x4.5cm system consisting of five compact and lightweight Fujifilm Professional series autofocus cameras with fixed lenses of different focal lengths and remarkable performance, released in the second half of the 1990s:

  • GA645 (1995) - a rangefinder camera with the Super-EBC Fujinon 60/4;
  • GA645W (1995) - as the GA645, but with the Super-EBC Fujinon 45/4;
  • GA645i (1998) - as the GA645, but with additional shutter release button on the front plate and support for bar code system;
  • GA645Wi (1998) - as the GA645i, but with the Super-EBC Fujinon 45/4;
  • GA645Zi (1998) - model with improved ergonomics and rearranged controls, new Super-EBC Fujinon 55-90/4.5-6.9 zoom lens, PC outlet and other small improvements.

Either 16-exposure 120 or 32-exposure 220 roll film can be used. The electronically controlled interlens shutter uses a special moving coil pulse motor and offers shutter speeds from 2 to 1/700th of a second + B. It lets you shoot with electronic flash at all speeds. The top hot shoe permits usage of any type of strobe. The cameras also have a built-in pop-up flash unit which gives automatic flash control. All models are equipped with exposure meter located inside viewfinder (GPD photocell). Light is measured at the center of the viewfinder. The viewfinder also contains bright line frame and parallax correction marks. The cameras use a hybrid autofocus system which employs passive phase difference detection and active infrared beam measurement. There's a choice of programmed AE, aperture priority AE and manual exposure. The cameras incorporate fully automatic film loading and winding.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the 645 series, the GA645i and GA645Wi cameras were also released in limited editions. These cameras differ from the mass-produced versions by the gold-plated "Professional" and "Limited" inscriptions on the front plate, as well as gold-plated hot shoe, shutter release button and decorative ring around the lens. On the top plate there is an additional inscription in gold letters: "645 series 15th Anniversary".
