"True" Macro Design

The Spiratone Proxitel represents the ultimate tool for the serious macro photographer. It is specially designed for optimum performance in the macro range (up to and including same size, 1:1), providing excellent "flat field" image quality with outstanding resolution, high contrast and color correction.

So-called "macro zoom" and other close-focusing lenses represent a design compromise which, while permitting reasonably close focus, do not provide the correction required for critical macro work. On the other hand, the Proxitel yields optimum results in the very range in which other such lenses vary from mediocre to unusable.

The 90mm (tele) Macro Advantage

The Proxitel's 90mm focal length is exceptionally well suited for its specialized task; it enables you to photograph small objects at a working distance almost twice as great as that possible with a 50mm lens: you'll have better perspective, valuable added space for placing lights and arranging for proper foreground and background.

Continuous Focusing to 1:1

Unlike most other "true" macro lenses which require an extension coupler to achieve lifesize (1:1) images, the Proxitel offers a continuous focusing range from infinity to 1:1 so that this single lens can be left on the camera for any series of jobs requiring a wide range of reproduction ratios.

Ideal for Duplicating

The Proxitel can be used for 1:1 duplicating in conjunction with any suitable slide illuminator; with extension tubes, it can be used for somewhat greater magnifications, still taking advantage of its special correction for such work.

Macro Attachment for 90mm Proxitel

doubles the magnification to 2X linear!

Specially formulated attachment screws into front of Proxitel to increase magnification to twice life size. Provides excellent sharpness when used with lens stopped down.

Focusing from infinity to 1:1 (same size), two Spiratone true macro lenses feature six-element, five-group design, accept 62-mm accessories, and are available for fully automatic operation with Canon, Minolta, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax K and Yashica/Contax SLRs.

The 90-mm Proxitel f/2.5 stops down to f/22, is seven in. long (3 3/8 in. at the infinity setting), weighs 19 oz. The 55-mm Proxitel f/2.8 stops down to f/16, is 5 1/4 in. long (three in. at infinity), weighs 12 oz.

Notes

• Independent-brand lenses were made for 35mm film SLR cameras by companies that competed with the camera manufacturers. Some came from factories that made lenses under their own brand names (Angenieux, Kiron, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina). Many others were national and international marketing organizations (Kalimar, Panagor, Rokunar, Soligor, Starblitz) that bought lenses from anonymous manufacturers. One firm — Vivitar — actually designed its own lenses and accessories, which were then subcontracted to manufacturing firms. Still others were private labels, sold only by specific photo specialty shops (Cambron, Quantaray, Spiratone).
