Abbreviations
SMC | Multi-layer anti-reflection coating is applied to the surfaces of lens elements. This anti-reflection coating increases light transmission, eliminates flare and ghosting, and maintains color consistence among all lens models. |
M | A manual focus lens with automatic maximum aperture indexing, which is a mechanical system for coupling the lens to the camera's exposure system. More compact and lighter than the standard K-series counterpart, but with no sacrifice in quality of construction, resolution, durability or contrast. Learn more |
MACRO | Macro lens. Designed specially for shooting close-ups of small subjects but can be also used in other genres of photography, not necessarily requiring focusing at close distances. Learn more |

Manufacturer description #1
Suitable for close-up and macrophotography, as well as normal shooting. Especially useful for shooting nature pictures, for reproduction work and for portraiture. Because of its longer focal length, this lens provides greater magnification than the Macro 50mm f/4.
Manufacturer description #2
Ideal for copying and portraiture. This lens allows twice the working distance of the Macro 50mm for a given image size. The extra distance helps prevent perspective exaggeration with closeups of three-dimensional subjects, and provides greater freedom to arrange lights and reflectors. The optical design of the Macro 100mm lens renders reversing the lens with extension tubes meaningless. Lens construction is 5 elements in 3 groups, closest working distance is less than 1 1/2 feet and the field of view is 24.5°.
Manufacturer description #3
SMC Pentax-M Macro 100mm f/4 offers greater magnifications than the 50mm macro lens in both the macro and general focusing ranges. In the macro range, this highly versatile lens lets you take close-ups of flowers that are beyond the reach of the 50mm lens. It also lets you shoot small insects at greater distances so that they are not frightened away. Moreover, in the general focusing range, you can use it as a regular 100mm telephoto for shooting distant mountains and scenery when focused at infinity, or for portraits when focused at close range.
Pentax-M series
The second generation of lenses designed for Asahi Pentax 35mm SLR cameras with bayonet mount. Introduced with Asahi Pentax ME and MX in 1976.
- Miniaturized lenses with average 20% less weight and length than their standard SMC counterparts, but with no sacrifice in quality of construction, resolution, durability or contrast;
- Robust, all-metal design with recessed focusing distance scale;
- Fully automatic diaphragm;
- Support for TTL open-aperture metering;
- Extremely accurate manual focusing with rubberized focusing ring;
- Multi-layer anti-reflection coating.
