Manufacturer description #1
Weighing a mere 6.9 oz. the SMCP-FA 35mm f/2 AL is one of the most compact and lightweight wide-angle lenses available. It incorporates a high-quality aspherical lens element to effectively compensate for spherical aberrations. It produces sharp, high-contrast images from the minimum focusing distance (1 ft.) to infinity. Additionally, it assures outstanding image resolution from edge to edge, even at the maximum f/2 aperture. Pentax’s acclaimed SMC (Super-Multi-Coating) provides maximum light transmission, sharp definition, and high contrast, while minimizing flare and ghost imaging, even in backlit conditions. A large, detachable flower-shaped lens hood (included) effectively shields the lens from excessive incident light, plus has a window that allows you to rotate the polarizing (PL) filter to control the amount of polarization without removing the hood from the lens. Filter size is 49mm .
Manufacturer description #2
This lens provides sharp images with high contrast over the entire image and at all focal lengths. The lens has an optical system using a hybrid aspherical lens and ghostless coating, large flower-shaped hood, and other key points for eliminating coma aberration and flare at the edges of the image, which is typically a problem for large aperture wide angle lenses. This lens also features abundant gradations and deep color reproduction. The supplied hood includes a window for enabling easy operation of the circular polarizing filter.
This high-performance lens is the first 35mm F2 lens for 35mm AF SLR cameras which uses aspherical lenses for correcting various types of aberration and providing a sharp image quality with high contrast from the minimum to the infinity end and high resolution up to the edges even when taken in an open aperture state. A ghostless coating is also used to enable shooting of clear images with little ghosting or flare even under backlighting and other adverse conditions. Closeup shooting up to 30cm is also possible with this lens.
This lens uses a flower-shaped hood for effectively cutting incident light, which can adversely affect the image quality. The hood also includes a "PL filter operation window" for enabling operation of the PL filter even when the hood is attached.
With a weight (mass) of only 195g, this compact lens is the lightest available for 35mm F2.
Pentax-FA series
The second generation of autofocus lenses designed for Pentax 35mm SLR cameras. Introduced with the Pentax Z-10 in 1991.
- Lens barrels made from engineering plastic, focusing distance scale behind a window (except certain zoom lenses);
- "A" setting on the aperture ring for automatic aperture control in the Programmed AE and Shutter-priority AE modes;
- Automatic focusing using in-camera motor;
- Support for MTF program line;
- Support for Power Zoom System.
