Manufacturer description #1
The Reflex 1000mm f/11 is approximately 1/3 that of the SMC Pentax 1000mm f/8 in length, and less than half of it in weight. In addition to its highly welcome portability, this new reflex optic focuses down to 8m, equalling the minimum focusing distance of most 400mm lenses while offering 2.5x additional magnification.
Manufacturer description #2
The 1000mm reflex telephoto lens provides the powerful reach of the SMC Pentax 1000mm f/8 telephoto lens, but is only 1/3 as long and weighs less than half as much. The dramatic size reduction of this lens is made possible by employing of reflex optics, whereby the optical path is folded by the combined use of mirrors and lenses. The use of mirrors also eliminates the need for optical correction, making the reflex lens almost totally free of aberrations. Another benefit the reflex design in this 1000mm lens is its incredibly close minimum focusing distance of 8 meters (24 ft.) - approximately equal to the minimum focus of the 400mm tele lens, but with over twice the magnification. As the reflex design does not permit inclusion of a lens diaphragm, light control for the 1000mm Reflex is via four built-in ND (neutral density) filters and shutter speed variation. Other features include four built-in standard filters, and a built-on sight to facilitate focusing.
Manufacturer description #3
REFLEX 1000mm f/11 AND 2000mm f/13.5 LENSES
The mirror-reflex design dramatically decreases the size and weight of these ultra-telephoto lenses. Because the beam coming in through these lenses is ring-shaped, the picture they produce usually show many ring-like patterns in the foreground and background of a focused subject.
Since these lenses have just one aperture, you cannot control the depth of field.
ND filters must be used to control the amount of light reaching the film, instead of an aperture control. Turn the ND filter ring until the desired ND filter aligns with the index.
ND filter: 1X - 2X - 2.8X - 4X
1000mm f/11 Corresponding f/number: f/11 - f/16 - f/19 - f/22
2000mm f/13.5 Corresponding f/number: f/13.5 - f/19 - f/22 - f/26
ND 1X filter is a colorless, transparent glass.
Each of these two lenses has three filters built-in: Skylight, Y2 and R2.
The white dot indicates neutral (transparent glass); you can use this setting when no filter is required. Turn the filter ring until your desired filter aligns with the index.
If you want to use any filter other than the built-in filters, you can attach a 52mm one to the mount of the lens.
To remove the mount, turn the mount lock ring to the left until the white dot aligns with the index. After screwing a 52mm filter into the inside of the mount, return the mount into the rearmost part of the lens and fix it in place by turning the mount lock ring to the right.
Pentax series
The first generation of lenses designed for Asahi Pentax 35mm SLR cameras with bayonet mount. Introduced with Asahi Pentax K2, KX and KM in 1975.
- Robust, all-metal design with recessed focusing distance scale;
- Fully automatic diaphragm;
- Support for TTL open-aperture metering;
- Extremely accurate manual focusing with rubberized focusing ring;
- Multi-layer anti-reflection coating.
(except for 400mm+ super telephotos and bellows lenses).
Typical characteristics of mirror (reflex) lenses
- Catadioptric system consisting of curved mirrors and optical glass;
- Much shorter, lighter and less expensive designs than conventional super telephoto lenses;
- Outstanding correction of chromatic aberrations;
- Since the aperture is fixed, neutral density filters are used to obtain a smaller aperture;
- Doughnut-shaped out-of-focus highlights.
