Manufacturer description #1

A lens of the so-called "Tessar" type, which has long been familiar as the standard lens for 35mm cameras. But constant improvements to the standard design have made the Canon 50mm f:3.5 lens one of the outstanding 50mm f:3.5 lenses of today. This lens is ideal for landscape and portrait work as well as having a wide range of uses in other fields of photography. For close-up and copying work no lens is better suited.

Manufacturer description #2

This lens has been designed on a Tessar formula and is an improvement on our Type I lens.

Manufacturer description #3

A universal lens for use with camera, enlarger, etc. Basic optical formula that permits an extremely high degree of correction, with four elements in a collapsible mount. Angle of view 46°. Apertures from f:3.5 to f:16. Focusing range 3.5 feet to infinity.

From the editor

A version with the mount changed from the Canon "J" screw mount (24 TPI) to the classic Leica screw mount (26 TPI). Standard lens for the Canon II-A, II-D, IV-SB, II-F, II-S. Produced from August 1952 to February 1955. In December 1952 the lens was renamed from Serenar to Canon.

The manufacturer claims that the lens is made according to the Tessar design, however, in the classic Tessar, the aperture stop is located not in front of, but behind the central element.

Series VI 34mm adapter ring is used to mount the lens hood.
