Manufacturer description #1

Canon's most popular wide angle lens (75°). Exceptionally flat field and excellent color correction. Spectra-coated. Rigid mount, with apertures from f:3.5 to f:22; focusing from 3.5 ft. to infinity. First high speed, wide angle lens in the world.

Manufacturer description #2

The world's first lens combining an angle of view as wide as 75 and a lens speed of more than f:6.3 which has long been considered the maximum speed attainable by any lens of this angle of view. This ultra-wide angle lens has outstanding resolving powers and, as might be expected from the sharply increased diameters of the front and back elements, it ensures an adequate amount of light in the corners, as well as the center, of the image. But for this lens, really wide-angle color photography would have remained an impossibility.

Manufacturer description #3

A unique lens, embodying ultra-wide angle-of-view of 75 deg. with high speed. Exceptionally flat field and color fidelity, without vignetting or edge-distortion. Six elements in a non-collapsible non-revolving mount. Ideal for shooting interiors, or wherever a wide angle is required under adverse light conditions. Apertures from f:3.5 to f:22, with click stops. Focusing range from 3 1/2 feet to infinity; metric calibration from 1 meter to infinity. Accepts series VI 34 mm screw-in adapter ring series VI filters. Lens hood must not be used. Net weight approximately 180 grams or 6.5 oz.

Manufacturer description #4

A Gauss type wide angle lens with 6 elements in 4 groups. This lens was the fastest wide angle lens in the world at the time. This lens was very popular because it was five times faster than Tessar 28mm f/8, made by Carl Zeiss, Germany. This series of lenses were named "Serenar" by a Canon employee in an in-house naming contest. The word "Serenar" was coined from "Serene", the name of the sea on the moon (the Sea of Serenity) and an adjective meaning of "tranquil".

No lens hood is necessary and 34mm Series VI filters are attached with an adapter ring and adapter ring insert.
