Abbreviations

MC Multi-layer anti-reflection coating is applied to the surfaces of lens elements. This anti-reflection coating increases light transmission, eliminates flare and ghosting, and maintains color consistence among all lens models.
MACRO A lens with better close-up focusing capabilities in comparison with traditional lenses. Not a macro lens though.

Manufacturer description

A photographic reflex lens with multi-layer anti-reflection coatings on optical surfaces is designed as an interchangeable lens for SLR cameras with a frame format of 24x36 mm. The lens allows you to take pictures on black and white and color film. The lens has a macro limit, the closest shooting distance is 4m. When shooting from a tripod, it is possible to compose a picture by rotating the lens with the camera using a special rotary ring. The lens is designed for photo hunting, close-up shooting of landscapes, architectural structures, sports competitions and other distant objects.

Typical characteristics of mirror (reflex) lenses

  • Catadioptric system consisting of curved mirrors and optical glass;
  • Much shorter, lighter and less expensive designs than conventional super telephoto lenses;
  • Outstanding correction of chromatic aberrations;
  • Since the aperture is fixed, neutral density filters are used to obtain a smaller aperture;
  • Doughnut-shaped out-of-focus highlights.

From the editor

The lens was produced by the Lytkarino Optical Glass Plant (USSR). Two versions existed:

  • МС РУБИНАР 10/1000 МАКРО - with the M42 screw mount;
  • МС РУБИНАР-К 10/1000 МАКРО - with the Pentax K mount.

The lens was supplied with a screw-in round lens hood, as well as three 116mm screw-in filters: УФ-1,4х (UV), О-4х (Orange) and ЖЗ-8x (Yellow/Green).

The maximum magnification is only 1:4, so "Macro" in the lens name is not justified. "Close focus" would be a better description, as the Rubinar focuses down to 4m, which is a pretty good result for a 1000mm super telephoto lens.
