This rare rigid close focussing version of the 5/3.5 lens was introduced in 1951 as the standard lens of the NICCA or TOWER Type III and continued to be available with subsequent IlIA, IIIB, and IllS models. The four element coated triplet formula remained unchanged in a rotary mount that focused to 1.5 feet. However, the last 1.5 feet was not rangefinder coupled. Angle of view was 46 degrees. Accessory size was S34.5; hence, the reversing 34.5mm snap on lens hood (AC518) could be used. Minimum f stop was f22. Only one serial number batch has been reported: 214XXX. This lens was never built in NIKON RF mount and was never really popular in SM as most photographers were willing to pay extra for the superb 5cm f2 and f1.4 lenses. Very few units were sold before production ceased in 1955. This lens is seldom seen today.
