Manufacturer description
February 5, 2025 - TOKYO - Nikon Corporation (Nikon) is pleased to announce the release of the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S, a fast wide-angle prime lens that is compatible with full-frame/FX-format mirrorless cameras for which the Nikon Z mount has been adopted.
The NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S is part of the S-Line* series, and realizes outstanding optical performance. It emphasizes the main subjects with soft and beautiful bokeh, and provides realistic expression of textures. Sharing the same design concept as the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S and the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S, it offers superior rendering capabilities as well as delivering depiction with a sense of depth, even at its wide angle of view.
The optics are constructed by employing three ED glass elements and one aspherical ED glass element, enabling effective aberration reduction. In addition, the application of Meso Amorphous Coat, Nano Crystal Coat, and ARNEO Coat minimizes ghosting and flares, providing outstanding optical performance. The NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S supports diverse imaging expressions, including portraiture such as weddings, street photography, and video recording.
Nikon will continue to pursue a new dimension in optical performance while meeting users' needs, contributing to the development of imaging culture, with the hope of expanding possibilities for imaging expression.
* The S-Line is a grade of NIKKOR Z lenses that demonstrate outstanding optical performance, adhering to a high standard of design principles and quality control.
Primary features:
- Enables unique imaging styles through the combination of high resolving power realized by superior optical performance, smooth and beautiful bokeh that makes the most of the shallow f/1.2 depth of field, and 35 mm angle of view.
- Achieves a sense of depth with smooth bokeh that transitions gently as it moves away from the focal plane.
- An ideal lens structure with symmetry in front of and behind the aperture ensures outstanding optical performance.
- Three ED glass elements and one aspherical ED glass element provide effective correction of various lens aberrations.
- Adoption of Meso Amorphous Coat, Nano Crystal Coat, and ARNEO Coat effectively reduces ghosting and flares for clear rendering.
- Adoption of a multi-focusing system*1 that uses stepping motors (STMs) realizes fast and accurate AF drive for both still images and video.
- A design that takes video recording into consideration, including stable exposure and functions such as focus-breathing suppression, which effectively reduces shifting of the angle of view when focusing.
- Two convenient lens Fn buttons, to which a wide variety of functions can be assigned, enable smooth adjustment of settings, even during vertical shooting.
- Superior dust- and drip-resistant performance*2 is ensured by sealing various parts of the lens, including movable parts of the lens barrel.
*1 Multiple AF drive units work together to control the position of multiple focus lens groups with great precision for superior image formation performance regardless of shooting distance.
*2 Thorough dust- and drip-resistance is not guaranteed in all situations or under all conditions.
From the editor
A professional moderate wide-angle lens, the optical formula of which is so complex that it competes with zoom lenses in terms of the number of optical elements. The ultra-fast speed of F/1.2 required large-diameter optical elements, which could not but affect the weight and dimensions of the lens.
Compared to other wide-angle prime lenses in the Nikon Z system
- Fastest speed (F/1.2)
- Has focus mode switch, along with 2 other models
- Longest closest focusing distance (0.30m)
- Largest magnification (1:5), along with 2 other models
- Heaviest weight (1060g)
- Longest length (150mm)
- Largest filter size (82mm)
