Manufacturer description #1
The Mamiya-Sekor 37mm f/4.5 Fisheye lens has a diagonal angle of view of 180 degrees and is ideal for interiors, panoramic scenes, and creative imagery. Because it is a fisheye lens of the "equidistance projection system" type with no shrinkage of the image at the edges.
The Mamiya-Sekor 37mm f/4.5 Fisheye lens is designed to accept 40.5 screw-in filters in the rear of the lens. A UV filter is preattached to the lens, and three other filters (Y48, R60, LB-A) are in the filter case.
As the lens is designed to be used with a filter always in place, be sure to attach any one filter to the lens.
Manufacturer description #2
The 37mm f/4.5 fisheye renders unusual perspective with a full rectangular image and expansive 180° angle of view. Linear distortion is apparent, and can be creatively used for unusual perspective of any scene or subject. Applications include interpretive landscape and architectural photography, advertising illustration, industrial and editorial assignments.
Mamiya-Sekor Z series
The first generation of lenses designed for Mamiya RZ67 series medium format 6x7 SLR cameras. Introduced with the Mamiya RZ67 Professional in 1982.
- Electronically controlled Seiko #1 leaf shutter;
- All shutter speeds up to 1/400 sec. synchronized automatically for electronic flash;
- Fully automatic diaphragm, aperture adjustments initially in full-stop increments, later modified by adding half stops (indicated by the letter "W" in the lens name);
- Multi-layer anti-reflection coating;
- Standardized 77mm filter thread mount for optimized handling with accessories (except the 37/4.5 fisheye, 75/4.5 shift and 500/8 lenses).
Typical characteristics of fisheye lenses
- Extreme angle of view (at least 180° diagonally);
- Circular types (the image circle of the lens is inscribed in the image frame) or diagonal types (cover the entire image frame);
- Usually of equidistant projection type, with the distance from the picture center to any given point always proportional to the angle from the optical axis to that point;
- Huge barrel distortion;
- Short closest focusing distance (0.20 - 0.30m with 35mm full-frame prime lenses);
- Very large depth of field, eliminating the need for autofocus or precise manual focusing;
- Due to the extreme angle of view and convex front element, front filters cannot be used;
- Often equipped with a filter turret with swivel-mounted filters;
- Often come with a small, built-in petal-shaped lens hood.
