Can I use a Mamiya / sekor 90/230 4.5 lens on a Nikon camera with a converter ?
What converter should I use ?
You can use this lens with a dedicated M42 – Nikon F adapter. There are two types of such adapters: (1) without glass, and (2) with glass. The benefit of non-glass adapter is a pristine image quality, however, the lens will loose ability to focus at infinity. As for the adapter with glass, it works like a sort of tele-converter – the lens will focus at infinity but the image quality will suffer due to aberrations resulting from the image magnification performed by the glass. It’s up to you whether to use glass or non-glass adapter. As to be honest Nikon DSLR cameras are not suitable for shooting with any lenses except for those with Nikon F mount (sic!) due to longer flange focal distance of the mount.
