Manufacturer description #1
The 37mm f/4.5 lens is of the so-called 'diagonal plane' fisheye type. It is a lens that permits special effects and unusual graphic treatment of the subject. As the widest of the wide-angle lenses, it can also be used for general photography.
Manufacturer description #2
The Mamiya-Sekor 37mm f/4.5 Fisheye lens has a diagonal angle of view of 180 degrees and is ideal for interiors, panoramic scenes, and creative imagery. Because it is a fisheye lens of the "equidistance projection system" type with no shrinkage of the image at the edges.
The Mamiya-Sekor 37mm f/4.5 Fisheye lens is designed to accept 40.5 screw-in filters in the rear of the lens. A UV filter is preattached to the lens, and three other filters (Y48, R60, LB-A) are in the filter case.
If two, or more, filters were to be used simultaneously, the mirror would strike the outermost filter, damaging the camera. To prevent this from occurring, the filters accompanying the lens are not front-threaded.
As the lens is designed to be used with a filter always in place, be sure to attach any one filter to the lens.
Manufacturer description #3
The 37mm f/4.5 fisheye renders unusual perspective with a full rectangular image and expansive 180° angle of view. Linear distortion is apparent, and can be creatively used for unusual perspective of any scene or subject. Applications include interpretive landscape and architectural photography, advertising illustration, industrial and editorial assignments.
Mamiya-Sekor C series
The second generation of lenses designed for Mamiya RB67 series medium format 6x7 SLR cameras. Introduced with the Mamiya RB67 Professional S in 1974.
- New barrel design;
- Mechanical Seiko #1 leaf shutter;
- Fully synchronized for M- and X-settings so that you can work with flash at all shutter speeds;
- Fully automatic diaphragm;
- Multi-layer anti-reflection coating;
- Standardized 77mm filter thread mount for optimized handling with accessories (except the 37/4.5 fisheye and 500/8 lenses).
Typical characteristics of fisheye lenses
- Extreme angle of view (at least 180° diagonally);
- Circular types (the image circle of the lens is inscribed in the image frame) or diagonal types (cover the entire image frame);
- Usually of equidistant projection type, with the distance from the picture center to any given point always proportional to the angle from the optical axis to that point;
- Huge barrel distortion;
- Short closest focusing distance (0.20 - 0.30m with 35mm full-frame prime lenses);
- Very large depth of field, eliminating the need for autofocus or precise manual focusing;
- Due to the extreme angle of view and convex front element, front filters cannot be used;
- Often equipped with a filter turret with swivel-mounted filters;
- Often come with a small, built-in petal-shaped lens hood.
Comments (1)
Based on my measuring the horizontal angle of view is (around) 107 degrees for 33cm measuring distance (from the front lens element).
