From the book "The Photographic Lens" (1968) by Hans-Martin Brandt
This six element ultra-speed lens of medium long focus has a rear half consisting of three air-spaced elements. Immediately behind the diaphragm is a diverging element followed by two positive lenses, the first a plano-convex and the second a biconvex lens of comparatively shallow curvatures. The performance claims specify pinsharp definition in the centre of the field, high astigmatic correction and good flatness of field, low residual coma, good evenness of illumination over the whole field and good chromatic correction.
From the editor
A version of the ENNASTON 85/1.5 with the same fundamental optical design (6-element modified double Gauss), but with a new design of the lens barrel: black enamel with "zebra"-style rings. The closest focusing distance was reduced from 1.2 to 1m, and the filter size was increased from 58 to 62mm. The lens hood from the ENNASTON cannot be mounted on this version.
In his book "The Photographic Lens" (1968), Hans Martin Brandt lists the following SLR cameras for which the ENNALYT 85/1.5 was available at the time: Alpa, Asahi Pentax, Edixa, Exa II, Miranda, Praktica, Praktina.
