Manufacturer description #1
The NOKTON 21mm F1.4 Aspherical VM is a large maximum aperture manual focus lens optimized for the imaging sensors of VM-mount digital cameras. The 21mm focal length covers an angle of 90.3°to create a super dynamic perspective.
Generally the wider a lens gets , the deeper the depth of focus of the lens; however, with the NOKTON 21mm F1.4 Aspherical VM-mount lens, the extremely large maximum aperture for a super wide-angle lens enables imaging that utilizes “bokeh”(out-of-focus blur). The lens utilizes a floating mechanism to maintain excellent imaging quality throughout the focusing range from close distance to infinity.
Furthermore, the lens features aspherical optics to eliminate distortion and chromatic aberrations in addition to enabling a compact optical design despite the large maximum aperture.
This lens is specially designed for manual focusing coupled precisely with the camera’s optical rangefinder system. Compared with a single lens reflex camera finder, the rangefinder focusing system focuses wide angle lenses with much more precision, enabling the photographer to use the shallow depth of focus offered by the large maximum aperture with peace of mind. The lens couples with the camera’s rangefinder from infinity down to 0.70m (differs depending on the camera) and features a helicoid that enable the lens to focus down to a minimum focus distance of 0.50m. The feature really shows its strengths when shooting using a camera with live view functionality. The included bayonet type rectangular hood is stylish, effective at shielding stray light and can be easily attached to and removed from the lens.

Manufacturer description #2
Amazingly large F1.4 maximum aperture for a 21mm lens. In addition to the dynamic perspective characteristic of a super wide-angle lens, this creative lens expands the range of photographic expression by enabling imaging that utilizes “bokeh” (out-of-focus blur). The lens employs a floating mechanism to maintain excellent imaging quality throughout the focusing range from close distance to infinity.
The amazingly large F1.4 maximum aperture for a super wide-angle lens enables a shallow depth of focus at maximum aperture. This is helpful for creative imaging utilizing bokeh.
The aperture diaphragm is configured with 12 blades to make the aperture opening as circular as possible. This means the out-of-focus areas of images are drawn naturally and point light sources etc. are drawn as soft round bokeh rather than as polygonal shapes.
The lens employs a floating mechanism to maintain excellent imaging quality throughout the focusing range from close distance to infinity. It also features lens elements with aspherical surfaces to eliminate distortion and lens elements made from anomalous partial dispersion glass to eliminate chromatic aberration.
A lens hood with a stylish rectangular shape extremely effective at shielding the lens from stray light and a bayonet type mount for ease of attachment and removal is included with the lens. The hood features a design that avoids interference with the distance window of a rangefinder camera.
The lens focuses beyond the minimum rangefinder-coupled focus distance of 0.7m all the way down to 0.5m. This feature is especially useful when using the lens on a camera with a live view function.
Employs a very precisely machined and adjusted all metal helicoid unit lubricated with high quality grease to realize smooth focusing operation with just the right amount of torque. This enables very precise focusing.
Uses the VM-mount lens mount compatible with Leica M-mount. Not only can this lens be used on rangefinder-coupled cameras, but design-wise it also balances very nicely when mounted on mirrorless digital cameras with a mount adapter.
The high-precision rangefinder coupling mechanism enables precise focusing in focus critical situations such as when shooting at or close to maximum aperture.
The lens features a generous imaging circle that covers the 35 mm full frame format. Furthermore, its size is extremely compact compared to interchangeable lenses for single-lens reflex cameras.
