From the editor
The following lenses share the same optical design developed by Cosina:
- COSINON AUTO MC F=2.5 f=40mm
- BAUER NEOVARON 1:2.5/40mm MULTICOATED - this lens was produced by Cosina in 1978 in a small number (maybe several hundred) of demo units for the Bauer RX1 35mm SLR camera (also made by Cosina), which was never put into mass production
- PORST COLOR REFLEX MC AUTO 1:2.5/40mm - standard lens for the Porst compact reflex OC
- Vivitar 40 MM 1:2.5 AUTO VMC
We listed only the most common lenses with this optical design, but there may be others. Most (if not all) of these were most likely produced by Cosina as an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer).
Judging by the old marking format (COSINON AUTO MC F=x.x f=xxmm instead of COSINA MC COSINON-S xxMM 1:x.x) and serial number (78xxxx), production of the lens began in 1978. Since the lens was released during the transition period, it was available not only with the M42 thread mount, but also with the Pentax K bayonet mount.
