Manufacturer description #1
Take portraiture, for example. In this branch of work a relatively great focal length has always been preferred on account of the power it provides for using the camera at a sufficient distance and so obtaining more pleasing perspective.
A very suitable lens for this purpose is the Zeiss Triotar f/5 of 3 3/8 ins focus (8.5 cm) which is of light build and admirably adapted for the majority of exposures with the camera in the hand on account of its ample speed.
The larger scale of the pictures makes this lens very suitable for studies of children and animals at a distance, and it renders valuable service to the landscape worker as an extra lens.
Manufacturer description #2
This lens is very suitable for portraiture, in which a greater focal length has always been preferred. The Triotar F/4 85 mm. will give a very pleasing perspective in portraiture and at the same time may also be used as a medium telephoto lens for landscape work.
From the editor
The lens accepts both 40.5mm screw-type and 42mm slip-on filters.
The lens originally had 37mm mount diameter for filters and/or lens hoods, but at some point it was changed to 42mm.
The lens was produced until June 1939. A total of 7500 units were made for CONTAX rangefinder cameras, including the Zeiss-Opton version.
