Manufacturer description #1

The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM wide-angle, fixed focal length lens affordably expands your options with the EOS R System. Great for still photography and videography, the RF24mm can provide drama in your still images, and has a wide field of view for vlogging, while still maintaining a natural look. The bright f/1.8 aperture also does wonders for your images. Not only can you achieve beautiful, soft backgrounds, but you can shoot in more available light situations than you could with a slower lens. The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM also comes with built-in Optical Image Stabilization to further enhance your low-light shooting abilities by providing up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction, and up to 6.5 stops with coordinated IS. The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM is surprisingly light and compact while still providing a very solid feel. Another unexpected feature of this lens is its close-focusing capability. It can focus continuously down to half life-size magnification making this prime lens even more versatile. No matter what you end up doing with this lens, you will be rewarded with high-quality images that can take your photography to the next level.

The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM makes for a lightweight and comfortable, all-day lens. It's ideal for capturing a variety of subjects and is a powerful lens that affordably expands the EOS R system.

A bright f/1.8 maximum aperture allows for great control over depth of field and bokeh, low-light shooting and video recording, with fast and reliable autofocus.

Taking advantage of the Canon RF lens mount, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM lens offers great optical quality. Its optical design includes an aspheric element, and an Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass element for high image quality from center to corner, and Canon Super Spectra Coating to minimize ghosting and flare.

With its impressive 5.5 In. minimum focusing distance, the RF24mm F1.8 IS STM lens is designed for working up-close and personal with subjects to document even the most minute of details. And because it has a maximum magnification of 0.5x, you can even experience close-up 1:2 half life-size macro photography so you can capture a variety of macro subjects with stunning results.

For consistently sharp results, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM features built-in optical Image Stabilization, providing enhanced shake reduction for up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction. When paired with an EOS R-series camera that has In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the Coordinated IS allows for up to 6.5 stops of correction. This means more reliable handheld performance and clearer detail in low-light situations, without having to increase the ISO or decrease the shutter speed. Because of its enhanced stabilization, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM can also help minimize the need for a tripod.

Canon's stepping motor (STM) technology is especially effective at producing smooth, quiet autofocus during video recording, even in low light. This lens is a perfect choice for multi-media content creation with quiet autofocus. And, STM focus drive provides responsive, quick - and exceptionally quiet - AF during still-image shooting, as well.

The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM lens incorporates a control ring on the lens barrel that can directly adjust numerous settings including shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation and more. Located towards the front of the lens and effectively adding a third dial to the EOS R camera's main dial and quick control dial, the control ring has a tactile, easily distinguished surface and features a clicking mechanism that provides tangible feedback for confident use while looking through the viewfinder. For photographers and moviemakers who would prefer a silent control ring, the clicking mechanism can be removed by a Canon service provider for a fee.

The compact size and light weight of the lens makes it an ideal companion on long hikes and excursions. It is also handy for a day out in the city and when you want to be creative with multiple prime lenses.

You'll have no problem when shooting close-up images in getting that creative, fun and pleasantly smooth out-of-focus background blur we all love with the circular 9-blade aperture. Subjects will stand out, and the background provides a beautiful backdrop that's visually appealing in itself.

Manufacturer description #2

When the wide-angle end of many standard zoom kit lenses for full-frame cameras is also 24mm, is there any reason to buy a 24mm prime lens? Of course, the answer is yes!

For one, it’s easier to design a small, fast prime lens than a zoom lens with the same properties, and this reflects in the price. For another, the RF24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM has a large maximum aperture of f/1.8, providing a very shallow depth of field that results in beautiful background bokeh despite the larger depth of field that usually comes with shorter focal lengths.

The RF24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM incorporates 1 aspherical lens and 1 UD lens in an optimised configuration. The aspherical lenses work together with the digital distortion correction function* on the camera to correct the distortion aberrations that become visible at short focal lengths, whereas the UD lens effectively corrects the lateral chromatic aberration that tends to manifest as colour bleeding and false colours in wide-angle images.

Compared to other wide-angle prime lenses in the Canon EOS R system

  • Shortest closest focusing distance (0.14m)
  • Largest magnification (1:2)
  • Has Image Stabilizer (IS)
  • Smallest filter size (52mm)
