Manufacturer description #1
The emphasis is on practicality and reasonable cost in this popular 35mm lens. A rational lens construction and concentration on aberration correction add up to improved optical performance and maneuverability in this lens which is second only to the FD 50mm f/1.8 in compact size and light weight. Even pictures taken at f/2.8 have high contrast. Like the FD 35mm f/2, this lens has many purposes in as many fields. Hard to match in portability and easy handling, it is another handy alternative to the 50mm standard.
Manufacturer description #2
As a result of holding the lens speed at f/2.8, the overall length of this lens is only 40mm and its weight of 165 grams makes it the lightest lens in the system. Thus, a compact lens with superior portability and handling was realized. As for the optical features of this lens, the concave element of the front group is of meniscus shape with a strong curvature. Cemented convex and concave elements are positioned in the second group, and glass with a higher index of refraction is employed in the rear group to effectively control aberrations, especially spherical, and to produce images with maximum sharpness and high contrast.
Manufacturer description #3
This New FD Lens replaces the FD 35mm f3.5 S.C. Not only is it faster and not only does it utilize the more convenient bayonet type mount of the New FD Lens Series, but it is even more compact and lighter than before. In overall optical performance, it is nearly impossible to surpass. It offers the photographer a moderately-priced optic that is built to Canon's traditional standards of ruggedness and dependabiltty. Unlike the previous FD 35mm f3.5 S.C., this lens is not equipped with a CAT pin. It is now multi coated, however.
