Manufacturer description #1
This lens is next to the FD 35mm f/2.8 only in being the most compact, lightest and most economical wide-angle lens in Canon's system. Added to its handy speed, these features make it the most popular of Canon's wide-angle lenses. Like the 24mm lens, it is especially recommended for those who use a 50mm lens for general-purpose photography for whom the characteristics of a 35mm lens do not make enough of a difference in giving a wide-angle perspective. With its great depth of field and superior maneuverability, it is tailor-made for grab shots. The crisp, sharp images it produces are amenable to considerable enlargement without loss of image quality.
Manufacturer description #2
Of the 28mm lenses, this handy lens is the most popular. Quite compact, its overall length of 40mm and light weight of 170 grams make it the second lightest among the FD lenses. With a reasonable price and sufficient speed, it is one of the first and most practical choices for a wide-angle lens.
Composed of seven air-spaced elements, the 28mm f/2.8 possesses high contrast and superior resolving power. An outstanding feature of this lens is the judicious arrangement of two convex lenses, placing one in front of and the other behind the lens diaphragm. As a result, spherical aberration arising from the three lenses in the front group is eliminated with the convex lens directly behind the diaphragm. Thus high quality images are obtained even at the f/2.8 maximum aperture.
Manufacturer description #3
Like its predecessor, the New FD 28mm f2.8 offers outstanding optical performance as well as a much more compact size and considerably less weight. In addition, it incorporates the new bayonet mounting function for greater ease of use.
It's an ideal, economical lens for all types of photography and photographers and its relatively fast maximum aperture permits top quality color photography under a wide range of lighting conditions.
